The last public acknowledgement was in May of 2019, from State Officials. The state Officials gathered up all the public servants, to discuss a regional water project
May 3, 2019 Times Telegram
"Commissioner RoAnn Destito, of the State of General Services, who organized the meeting, told the group, "I saw the governor las night. He wanted me to let you know he's very interested in this"
This meeting was intended as informational session, she stressed. No decisions were being made, but representatives of the villages and towns could ask questions and take what they learned back to their respective boards .
The village of Ilion is looking at obtaining water from MVWA as a possible alternative to renovating its water system. If Ilion decides to go with the water authority, the water line would come down state Route 5, giving other municipalities an opportunity to tie into the project.
Ilion is the only municipality with the lead issue, crumbling infrastructure, due to poor maintenance , poor operations, mis- appropriations of tax/ratepayers money, for far too many years
I again say, Flint MI nor Hoosick Falls NY was saved by any official coming forward, it took the PEOPLE to stand together and have their VOICES HEARD.
Again David Murray offers a great statement see below
The Village of Ilion is once again in the midst of yet another declared Boil water advisory/ Declared water Emergency in addition is a plea from officials for water conservation. As Yogi Berra says, and the Mayor likes to use these short quotes, "It is de ja Vue all over again". When are we, the people going to speak up in unified fashion and let our State and local officials know, enough is enough, and meaningful actions to improve water quality and safety must start NOW!
In February of past year (a mere 6 months ago) the Governor visited the village during a major water crisis. A series of main breaks resulted in little or no water and pressure to a wide area of the village, A Water emergency was declared along with conservation, and boil water advisories. During his Visit the Governor was joined by Office of General Services Director RoAnn Destito. who together promised immediate and long term aid and assistance to the village bottled water was again made available for a very short period of time, and a promise that the State is eager to work with the Village to find a long-term solution.
We have heard nothing publicly since from the Governor, DOH, or Director Destito. There may be much activity behind the scenes, but the people are not informed or made aware. In dealing with a vital resource/ commodity such as drinking water, the people must have confidence in safety and quality. Posts on Social media in the thousands show this is not the case.
There have been no formal public meetings PIM's regarding updates on proposed capital projects, grant applications, and or the chance for the public to be part of discussions and seek answers to questions in almost a year. All we have received and heard is be patient, don't use/ conserve the water, and keep paying those utility bills. Enough is enough!
We the people must demand not ask, that a Public information meeting regarding the status of OUR drinking water, be held immediately. Not a month from now, not weeks but in days. Not after elected officials feel they have something concrete to offer for appeasement, but now.
Not waiting for grants, immediate remedies and solutions must be presented and made. The NYS health Department has been deeply involved with testing and data collection for months, with no results or updates given to the people. A $350,000 state grant sits idle in use except for the collection and data process, while mains are breaking, people are buying bottled water, Boiling water, or not using public water at all. ALL unacceptable!
This is our, your public water, you pay the taxes and rates, it is not the sole ownership of 5 individual elected officials. WE must all demand that all voices be heard in a public forum. If you agree I encourage and implore you to call, write or in other means contact your State local officials and DOH and demand that they start working for you(US) and request that your voices be heard in an immediate Public informational Meeting.
