Transparency and Community involvement:
Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES District Superintendent Sandra Sherwood will reach out to component school districts prior to a vote on whether BOCES should purchase the former Remington Elementary School building.
Sherwood said Friday the vote will take place Tuesday, March 31.
While there is no requirement that Sherwood holds a presentation on why BOCES wants to move forward with the purchase, she said she plans to do so anyway.
“I am presenting the budget and the Remington purchase at one board meeting in each district,” she said in an email Friday.
After children learn the basics (Math, reading, etc.) in the elementary grades say up to the 8th grade, more emphasis needs to be placed on living, social and work skills. How to balance a check book, how to invest, how to balance work, life and career, philanthropy. Education must be more about preparation for life than just filing a person's head with knowledge. focus more on teaching wisdom, the wise use of knowledge.
BOCES has been, sadly, a forgotten positive asset. From Alternative Education, to a bridge for some to learn many apprentice skills, that could lead not just working for others, but to increase the availability of such skilled workers, but also a steppingstone to other avenues of the workforce and Adult education
This a great opportunity to shape the future, a true community vision, of education, workforce, and social economics.
