FISCAL STRESS INDICATERS...

Catherine M Macera

DECLINE IN POPULATION, DECLINE HOME VALUE, LOWER AVERAGE MDEIAN INCOME,

RISE IN UNENPLOYMENT, DEPENDENT ON STATE AND FEDERAL AID (REMEMBER WE ARE AT 95 % CONSTITUTIONAL TAX LIMIT, IF WE EXCEED 100% CONSTITUTIONAL LIMIT WE ARE DENIED FUNDING)

Unfortunately, Remington employees are already feeling a loss, years of mismanagement of tax payers money, soon to see increase in Water rates of about 8-10% approximately late this year or early next year followed that same increase for at least the next 10 years. (excluding the $10.2 million sewer project minus the $2.5 grant received), those employees and seniors will the choke hold gripe tighter.

People have already made enough sacrifices, time for the sub servants to face the burden of sacrifice.

There are interesting new numbers from the New York State Labor Department on unemployment rates.

Herkimer County is one of only two counties in the state to see the rate go up.

In Herkimer County, unemployment is at 5.1 percent – up just about a point from this time last year.

No word on if this is related to the furlough at Remington Arms, which is slated to end August 12.

In Oneida County, unemployment sits at 3.7 percent, and in Otsego County, 3.5 percent.

(Furlough to return in November , possibly)

Remington furloughs hundreds during 2 month closure; Alabama could be impacted

Posted May 28, 2019

Remington Arms will furlough hundreds of workers during a two months partial shutdown this summer, according to reports. The impact on the firearm manufacturer’s Alabama plant remains unclear.

Employees in Remington Arms in Ilion, New York were told today most will be off the job without pay starting Monday, June 3 and lasting through Aug. 12, WIBX reported. The furlough is in addition to a mandatory two-week paid vacation from July 1-12.

Another furlough may be instituted in November if the market doesn’t pick up, employees were reportedly told.

Remington employs about 500 people in Ilion and more than half of the workers there will be off the job. Some production lines will remain open during the closure but employees weren’t told which ones.

AL.com newspartner WHNT said the impact on the Huntsville operation is being determined. The company’s original agreement with Alabama called a workforce of 415 employees but it’s unclear if that goal has been met. Remington recently refunded about $1 million in incentives to Limestone, Madison and Morgan counties and the state has disallowed some $3 million in cash incentive payments to the gunmaker.
