Duofold: DO or fold" redevelopment of this property is so important to the psyche of the people of the Village of Ilion that if redevelopment does not occur within 3 to 5 years that many will feel their village, just as with the prospect of a bad hand of poker, should " Fold".
In order to help prevent such sentiments and future bad prospects this needs to be priority one of the county and /or Village Government.
With Remington Arms layoffs continuously looming, poor water quality and sanitary sewers, and increasing taxes and decline in public services a vision and ray of hope for this community is in desperate need.
This property gives a unique opportunity to do just that. Redevelopment will show that government can function positively, and that Ilion once again can enjoy revitalization and improved quality of life. Multiple uses of the building and land for housing, business, and public needs will kick start a well needed and deserved improvement of helping to relive the heavy property tax burden.
This cannot take 20 to 30 years as some redevelopment and capital improvements have, but must start now and occur within 3 to 5 years. this must also be achieved with a clear vison and plan of the people, not solely the Village Elected officials and or the IDA.
Just as in a game of Poker, much better to hold a good hand have a strategy, rather than to rely on the bluff or need to fold. This is not a game, but the stakes are just as high as a multimillion-dollar poker game. the chips are in play, are our elected officials up to the task of "raking them in"?
