Consolidate: Why? "simply, NY has too much government ( 4 Village, Town, City, County ) all exercising similar functions and authority and that these extra layers, result in higher then necessary property taxes."
There are two ways consolidation can be accomplished, by the local governing body or THE PEOPLE INITIATE A CITIZEN PETITION. This an opportunity to reorganize, consolidate, or initiate a better, welll planned future as the people see fit.
Two -thirds of NY villages have a population of 3000 or less , Village of Ilion as of last census 7, 913.

"Since 2010, there have been 41 referenda un the Empowerments Act, 17 of which have resulted in a vote to dissolve"
The greatest debate , and understandably so, is the psychological attachment versus the fisical stressers. The stagnation of growth.

Can this be the path of the Peoples vision of what WE want for the future of OUR Village, Where and how we want our tax dollars to used, to be the GREATER part of future we have been denied for far to long?
One thing for sure, competition for grants/loans is competitive and will only become more competitive as we face a future of less grants/loans, they only last for so long.
